Jeannine Peace

I met this amazing artist at the Midtown Farmers Market hosted by T'afia on Saturday. Her booth was amazing! Her art was super sweet. Most of all she was a gem to meet. Her name was Jeannine Peace and she is the maker of amazing little trinkets.
She sells these amazing skirts that can be wrapped into a dress! It was an amazing demonstration. From a skirt, to a halter, then a semi-formal gown. Just add some heels and you are ready to go. She also has a line of jewelery which is made out of precious and semi-precious stones. It was like being in a high class boutique in the middle of the city. Thank Jeannine for allowing me to take a photo of your booth and I wish you the best of luck!

In Their Own Words

In the next few days, I will be running a new article featuring Indie artists writing about what they love, art! I know, it's kind of strange hearing from the artist in their own words but sometimes I feel the passion can be left out when writing a review. I want to know what makes an artist tick. What makes them get up in the morning and create? So, over the next few weeks we will hear from a variety of artists and learn more about their lives and passions.

If you are interested in submitting and article for consideration, please include the following:
2 pharagraphs about your art, passions, and life
Your contact information
A discount or promotion to offer my readers (optional)

I will then select images from your shop to go along with the article. So, please include your shop or website URL.

Thanks and good luck

Amie

Pictures from Midtown Farmers Market

Here's some other photos of my booth at this past Saturday's Midtown Farmers Market.

Lots of handmade cards and stationery!

Midtown Farmers Market - Results

On Saturday, the 16th, I was invited to be a seller at the Midtown Farmers Market, hosted by T'afia. It was amazing. I really learned a ton. Plus, a got a few more sales of my handmade cards. Now that cannot hurt a thing? Right? Really, I hear it's good for blood pressure or something.
Though the day was very hot, humid and a bit showery, I had a blast. A new venue, new people to meet, and of course driving into downtown Houston by MYSELF! (Thanks GPS!) I did get lost and find myself driving the wrong way down a one way street! (Thanks pedestrian for pointing at me and laughing!) It was freakin scary. If you know the feeling you get when you are about to die or be humiliated, then you know what I am talking about. All the cars stopped and let me figure out what I was doing. Plus, as mentioned above, pedestrian guy was laughing at me. What was he thinking? Well, he should have thought about the outfit he picked out.... (pause) (leaving pedestrian alone)
I did make it back to Montgomery in one peice. So thanks Midtown and T'afia! It was a crazy, awesome, terrific, day and I hope to be able to say that I will be back in Midtown more often. It's my kind of (mid) town.

European Street Team

Have you ever heard of a street team? They are teams or groups on Etsy with crafting members who share a similar passion or location. Every now and again, I love to spring through the Etsy Street Teams pages and see other people's passion. Like this team, the European Street Team. Bound together by their passion of nothing more then where they live. Europe!
In this shop you can find goods from a variety of members and crafting skills. It's like a farmers market but on your screen! You can sample the best of what Europe has to offer without shopping all over the internet. It's great, I say!
Check them out and let them know I said hi and a cherrio!

Interview with J.Lynne Cosmetics

Interview with Jess, from J.Lynne Cosmetics.

1. Tell us a little more about you and your shop.
*J.Lynne Cosmetics is a young, vibrant indie beauty company specializing in
all-natural mineral makeup products. Since 2005, it's been our desire to
bring beauty back to nature with high-quality, yet affordable, handcrafted
cosmetics that are completely free from chemicals, synthetics, fragrances,
and unnecessary ingredients. Our products are cruelty-free and all of our
loose powder minerals are vegan-friendly. The complete J.Lynne Cosmetics
line includes everything from mineral foundations to blushes, eye shadows,
natural lipsticks/glosses, and more!

My inspiration to create cosmetics was "skin deep" in the beginning, as I
had been struggling for years with sensitive, acne-prone skin that just
didn't work well with traditional cosmetics. Factor in my very pale, Irish
complexion and the only choices I had were bare skin (yikes!) or
chemical-laden foundations that created more problems than they covered -
not to mention being the wrong color for my skintone. So I began
researching natural alternatives and was fascinated with the idea of
mineral-based makeup. Being the crafty gal I am, I purchased some basic
ingredients and after lots of trial and error, I created my first
foundation, and the idea for J.Lynne Cosmetics blossomed from there!

2. What drives you to create?
*I am a Gemini through and through -- always spinning new ideas, starting new
projects, having surges of creativity. Handcrafting cosmetics is something
I never thought I'd be doing in a million years, and that's one of the
reasons why I love it! It took me by surprise and I get to be a bit of a
mad scientist, a bit of an artist, and a bit of a kid at heart all at once!

3. What is it like being your own boss? Is it easier or harder then working
for someone else?
*As with all things, it has its good points and its downside. Working for
myself really suits my night-owl tendencies (awake until 3am just about
every night!) and I really enjoy doing something challenging that allows me
to fill many different roles and be very creative. But it also means not
having a steady paycheck, subsidized benefits, job security, a colorful mix
of co-workers, and so on. Owning a small business definitely isn't for the
faint of heart, but if you work hard and reap the rewards, it's more
fulfilling than anything you could imagine!

4. What inspires you?
*My inspiration comes from so many different sources. Nature, artwork,
modern pop culture, vintage/retro trends, you name it! The best kind of
inspiration really comes from my customers though. There's nothing better
than the joy and satisfaction I get from creating something that addresses a
specific customer need or desire. And sometimes we just love to pay them
tribute, like with our recent Japanese Garden Mineral Eyeshadows collection, just our way of saying "thanks & we love you!" to our wonderful fans in Japan!

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
*I see myself with a successful business that has stayed small, homegrown,
and throughly indie! And maybe a house in Napa Valley with my boyfriend, my
feline posse, and a nicely stocked wine cellar. That's happiness right
there!
